California Grand Casino FAQs

  1. What’s the difference between a California cardroom and a Vegas casino?

Cardrooms offer card and tile games, like Poker, Blackjack, Pai Gow and Three Card Poker, while Vegas casinos offer slot machines, keno and sports betting. Unlike at Vegas-style casinos, at California cardrooms you are never playing against the house, you are always playing against another player, called the player-dealer. The California Grand Casino is a cardroom. We offer Texas Hold’Em, Three Card Poker, Hot Action Blackjack, EZ Baccarat, Face Up Pai Gow, and Pai Gow. Our games have bonus bets that can pay you up to 5,000 -1.

  1. What is a “player dealer” game?

In our signature games—Hot Action Blackjack, EZ Baccarat, Three Card Poker, and Pai Gow Poker—the players wager against the player-dealer position. Each player can take a turn being the player-dealer and taking advantage of the odds on the dealer hand. Our staff handles the dealing and payouts, ensuring easy, clear, and community-centered gameplay. The player-dealer wager is used to settle the player bets. The player-dealer can only lose the amount he or she wagers.

  1. What games are available?

  1. What is the difference between “Limit Texas Hold’em” and “NoLimit”?

The core difference lies in the betting structure. Texas Hold’em is the game, and “Limit” or “No Limit” refer to the size of the wagers.  In NoLimit Texas Hold’em, a player can bet any amount up to their entire stack at any point in the hand. Limit Texas Hold’em, on the other hand, has predefined bet sizes for each betting round.

  1. What is the history of the cardroom?

California Grand Casino proudly holds the title of the oldest continuously operating poker room in the world, with games dating back to 1854. Originally established as the Woodford Hotel and Saloon, the venue offered alcohol and gambling and soon became a prominent stagecoach stop and Wells Fargo Pony Express station during the Gold Rush era. As the region evolved, the hotel was renamed the Pacheco Inn, continuing its poker tradition. In 1979, it officially became known as California Grand Casino, preserving over 170 years of rich gaming heritage in Northern California. Today, we are pleased to offer games in a clean and modern facility across the street from the original building, with all the comfort and convenience of a modern cardroom.
